Common Milkweed Seed (Asclepias syriaca)

Common Milkweed is a hardy native perennial recognized for its pink to rose-purple flower clusters that bloom in summer. It’s found throughout the Midwest and eastern United States, thriving in full sun and loamy to mesic soils but capable of tolerating a wide range of conditions, including sandy or clayey ground. The flowers have five green-to-purple-tinged petals topped by a crown of rose to purple lobes, rarely white. This species spreads readily, particularly in moist areas, and is ideal for butterfly gardens, conservation efforts, and meadow plantings. Burning in the fall helps remove old stalks, promote taller regrowth, and enhance flowering and seed production. Seed can have high dormancy; provide cold stratification for 30 days prior to spring seeding or plant in late fall.
