Late Fall Seeding Your Lawn

Late Fall Seeding Your Lawn

Thinking about overseeding your lawn late this fall? Better to wait later and dormant seed!

When we get into mid-late October in Northwest Wisconsin, it will be more beneficial to wait and dormant seed. Grass seed will not have enough time to mature to levels it needs to survive winter in the Midwest when seeding now.

Dormant Seeding Points

  • Wait until soil temperatures dip below 40 degrees
  • When air temperatures are too low for germination
  • Typically done from November-March
  • DO NOT dormant seed if snow is covering area.
